HIGUEY - The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, announced this Sunday the project to build three trauma units at the regional level, in the provinces of La Altagracia, Azua and Valverde.
“I can also announce that the process to build a regional trauma unit will begin here. You know that our country has one of the highest traffic fatality rates in the world, and we have three trauma units ready for next year: one in Higüey; another at the hospital in Azua, in Taiwan; and another at the hospital in Valverde, Mao,” the president said.
He also reported that the Government plans to build ten hemodialysis units throughout the country.
The head of state made these statements during the inauguration ceremony of the chemotherapy unit at the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia General and Specialty Hospital (HGENSA) in Higüey.
This center represented an investment of 3.4 million pesos for the Dominican State, according to the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lama, who assured that this amount is very little compared to the benefits it will offer to the local community.
According to Lama's statements, the unit will have four cubicles, properly equipped to care for patients who will receive chemotherapy.
Similarly, it will have a recovery area; two consulting rooms (one for gynecology and one for general practice); a waiting room and a nursing station.
