SANTO DOMINGO. -The woman who paid Frenchman Georges Antoine Thevenet for fumigation in an apartment on the 9th floor of the Da Silva 3 tower, located in the Piantini sector, left him for a period of 48 hours on the fumigator's recommendation to avoid being poisoned by the product that was used, but which affected her neighbors, a family that has lost two members due to the effects of the pesticide.
According to lawyer José Alexander Suero, who said he represents the property owner, Karina Bausan, she "did not hire" Thevenet, but rather her tenant, whose name he did not reveal.
Suero stated that "for the fumigation process to take place, Mr. George coordinated with the tenant that she had to vacate the apartment for at least 48 hours, and she did so." The tenant went to Samaná until the insects were eliminated, he said.
He maintained that Thevenet had already "carried out similar processes on other occasions" in the apartment "for the elimination of insects".
The lawyer stated that the fumigations are not done by the condominium administration, but rather "by each owner as they deem necessary.".
He added that the previous work was done to disinfect the furniture and not for a " sculpture per se ".
She lives in Florida
Suero said that Ms. Karina Bausan has been cooperating with the authorities to respond to the information they "have requested in order to determine what really triggered this tragedy.".
Adelle Ruiz de León and her two-month-old baby died from poisoning as a result of the fumigation, which took place last Friday.
José Luis Acra, Adelle's husband, and another minor child, one year and three months old, are in delicate health conditions.
Authorities have offered little information about the case, claiming they will provide details as the investigation deepens.
