A “city of knowledge” for Punta Cana

It will be located in the municipality of Verón, on land donated by the Puntacana Group. A management school and training programs to strengthen tourism will be established there.

SANTO DOMINGO - A technological training center, projected to be completed by the end of 2022, will be built in Punta Cana to strengthen the training of tourism industry workers and residents of the eastern part of the country.

The Director General of the National Institute of Technical and Professional Training (INFOTEP), Rafael Santos Badía, said that it is a Technology Center, which will be called the "City of Knowledge", for which the land in the municipality of Verón, donated by the Puntacana Group, has already been acquired, where a management school and training programs to strengthen tourism will be established.

“This center will allow training in various areas of the sector, with high standards of quality and service, which translates into benefits for all those involved in the tourism field,” said the director of INFOTEP.

The information was provided at a working meeting between the governing body of Technical and Vocational Training and the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), represented by its president Rafael Blanco Tejera, where the opportunity was taken to renew the agreement between both institutions.

Santos Badía stated that with the renewal of the agreement, INFOTEP continues its support for this important sector of the economy. “We have renewed an agreement to support the Dominican tourism industry, through which we commit to contributing to training programs via ASONAHORES and thus supporting the work this organization is doing in terms of job inclusion in all hotels and restaurants in the Dominican Republic,” he said.

Santos Badía pointed out that they will support all initiatives and training needs for the technical training of human resources in the sector, in order to apply best practices in the development and flourishing of the tourism industry.

Blanco Tejera praised the contributions of INFOTEP and the City of Knowledge project in Punta Cana, which is projected to be completed by the end of 2022.

“Having a human capital with a high technical level is the only thing that guarantees that productivity will increase and the level of service will be maintained, so that our sector can continue with the growth rate that we have been exhibiting,” said Rafael Blanco.
