8 ideas to renovate small kitchens in 2025

Open to the living room, with custom-made furniture, floor-to-ceiling fronts that occupy an entire wall, paneled appliances that integrate better, strategic storage areas, hidden extractor hoods… These small kitchens, despite their limited square footage, have been brilliantly designed.

What are the key elements? A carefully planned layout that makes the most of every inch. If you're thinking about renovating yours, you should take note of the ingenious solutions devised by the interior designers and architects who created these kitchens. In these projects selected by El Mueble magazine, the kitchens appear to visually expand and cleverly disguise their lack of space.

1-With peninsula and wallpaper

The team at LaiaUbia Studio designed this small U-shaped kitchen. One side becomes a peninsula that serves as both a work surface and a breakfast bar . A width of 80-90 cm is sufficient. They opted for two colors: white and taupe, which bring brightness and warmth.

The sleek furniture gives it a modern touch. A window has been opened above the sink to allow light to flow freely . The wallpaper with a botanical motif on one of the walls adds style.

2-Square, in white and wood

Open-plan kitchens should be seamlessly integrated into the living room, which is why interior designer Pia Capdevila opted for a wooden peninsula that conceals the radiators , creating a cozy atmosphere while seated at the bar. The right-hand wall of cabinets, lacquered in white like the rest of the kitchen, extends along the wall into the living room as shelving.

3. Distributed in a U shape, in white and gold

Interior designer Dara Díaz, from Nice Home Barcelona, has opted to distribute this small, rectangular kitchen along two parallel lines . To make it appear more spacious and bright, she has chosen white cabinets with gold handles that add a chic touch .

4-With color and a comfortable office

If you're planning a renovation in your small kitchen, take a good look at this project by Alto Interiorismo. It's an open-plan space, lacquered in white and Klein blue, which has been made feel lighter thanks to the absence of upper cabinets . The peninsula has been cleverly repurposed as a breakfast nook by adding bench seating on both sides.

5-A whole front for storage

floor-to-ceiling cabinet wall was installed , in blue, which houses the ovens, a breakfast area and plenty of storage space.

If your small kitchen isn't fully open to the living room or dining room, opt for sliding doors that save space, add depth, and allow you to open or close them as you please .

6-With custom-made furniture

Architect Rafael Fullana designed this small, custom-made, L-shaped kitchen. He chose sleek white cabinets that blend seamlessly with the wall paint ; a wooden countertop, matching the floor, which adds warmth; and white, paneled appliances that don't clash with the overall look. He also created a cleverly designed breakfast nook behind the sofa.

7-With a mini bar

Another small, U-shaped kitchen, lacquered in white, with smooth fronts and the charm of exposed stone on the wall . Interior designer Inés Portell has placed the sink on one side and the cooktop on the other, next to the window. The opposite side has been left as a work surface. The kitchen ends in a mini breakfast bar with two stools that separates it from the dining area .

The blend of modern and classic elements is the defining feature of this small kitchen. It belongs to interior designer Natalia Zubizarreta, who has combined moldings, handles, textured wallpaper, artwork, and a pendant lamp to create a welcoming atmosphere . In the center, she has placed a small table with two wicker chairs. It's a clever combination that never gets old.
