SANTO DOMINGO – Styward Sánchez is a civil engineer, trained at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC), with a Master's degree in Construction Management and nine years of experience. His interest in construction began at a young age, accompanying his father on construction projects, which sparked his desire to create spaces that add value to people's lives. He has participated in more than 150 projects throughout the country.
This young engineer shared his concerns and perspectives for the Dominican construction sector with El Inmobiliario , highlighting the obstacles and challenges the industry faced last year.
What story does each building tell?
Each building holds stories of families starting out, young people buying their first home, and individuals seeking a dignified life. That's why I pay attention to every detail; I don't just build structures, but spaces where people can live with peace and pride.
How do you manage the challenges of construction projects?
In construction, problems arise unexpectedly. My approach is to tackle them with a team that listens, proposes solutions, and takes responsibility. They plan, review, and adjust, always being transparent to provide clear answers and concrete results.
What do you do to build responsibly?
Responsibility begins with keeping your word: being clear about what you offer, respecting designs and deadlines, protecting the safety of your staff, and caring for the environment. Trust is earned through daily actions on every project.
What were the challenges of building this year?
Rising interest rates have slowed purchasing decisions, and the strengthening dollar has hampered sales of off-plan projects. This has led us to provide more support to our clients, explore alternatives, and offer flexible payment options without compromising quality.
What are you expecting for next year?
I expect a more favorable climate for investment. A strong sector drives jobs and opportunities. With better incentives and financing, the market can recover, and I'm ready to continue contributing with projects that generate real value.
What advice would you give to young people?
They should commit to honest and disciplined work. Results come when commitments are kept and the right thing is done. Protecting one's reputation and honoring every agreement is key to achieving goals that today seem distant.
