“This agreement will allow us to coordinate actions that will make Santo Domingo a more attractive place for tourism and business,” he said.
Tourism as an engine for other sectors
For his part, the president of the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster, Juan Manuel Martín de Oliva, maintained that the impact of tourism transcends activities directly related to that sector.
“Tourism generates opportunities far beyond its directly linked activities,” he stated.
He added that connecting the city's businesses with the tourism sector can help strengthen their value chains and expand the economic benefits of this activity.
Networking and joint projects
The agreement also includes meetings, working groups and networking opportunities, as well as activities for the exchange of knowledge and the identification of opportunities to develop joint projects.
The event was attended by Fantino Polanco, executive vice president of the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce; Fabeth Martínez, executive director of the Tourism Cluster; and representatives of the technical teams of both entities.
The Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce aims to facilitate business in the capital and support companies throughout their life cycle, while the Tourism Cluster works to position Santo Domingo as a gastronomic, meeting and convention destination, as well as promote its historical and urban heritage.
