SANTO DOMINGO.-The Dominican Association of Foreign Investment Companies (ASIEX) announced that it will hold meetings with presidential candidates to learn about the public policies included in their government plans to promote foreign direct investment in the country.
The “ASIEX Presidents’ Meeting: A Final Look at the Government Plan Regarding Foreign Investment and Reinvestment” will be held in two sessions. The first will take place next Tuesday, May 7, with the participation of Leonel Fernández, former president of the Dominican Republic and presidential candidate for the People’s Force Party (FP).
The second session is scheduled for Tuesday the 14th, with Luis Abinader, President of the Republic and candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
In a statement sent to the media, ASIEX indicates that it is of utmost importance for the association to understand the public policies and projects that comprise the government plans of political parties and the vision of candidates regarding the development of foreign investment in the Dominican Republic
On the occasion of these initiatives, the president of ASIEX, Alejandro Peña Prieto, highlighted that, “for almost 40 years ASIEX has worked hand in hand with the different sectors of national life to promote a favorable business climate for investment in the Dominican Republic, fostering legal security, institutionality and the rule of law as indispensable foundations for sustainable economic progress.”
The executive emphasized the importance of foreign direct investment for the country's economic stability, noting that by the end of 2023, it had reached a figure exceeding US$4.3 billion.
“This achievement reaffirms our position as undisputed leaders in attracting foreign direct investment in the Central American and Caribbean region, further consolidating our position as one of the main destinations for this investment in all of Latin America.”.
According to ASIEX, the country's main foreign direct investment companies form a multi-sector network that spans from industry and energy to free trade zones, tourism, mining and services, and have an accumulated investment portfolio in the country of more than US$30 billion.
