Banco Popular promotes financial education among young people

SANTO DOMINGO- Banco Popular Dominicano, in collaboration with financial coach Pamela Pichardo, offered the educational talk "Purposeful Finances for Young People," as part of the "Financial Adventure" educational program, during which valuable advice was shared on money management and the importance of financial planning from an early age.

This talk is part of the initiatives that the Bank has brought to the tenth edition of the Economic and Financial Week 2024, organized by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.

Tips for young people

During the activity, facilitator Pamela Pichado emphasized to the young people the importance of understanding the value of money, highlighting that it is a tool and that its proper use requires differentiating between basic needs and wants or whims. She then invited them to reflect on what is essential for their well-being versus what, while desirable, can wait.

Interaction with parents regarding family finances was another point suggested by the financial literacy facilitator, who encouraged young people to talk with their parents and learn about family savings and spending strategies. She also asked the audience to identify the various ways each household generates income, emphasizing the importance of effort, perseverance, and hard work in achieving it.

Saving emerged as a central theme. The financial coach encouraged participants to develop this healthy habit, set clear savings goals, and create plans to help them achieve their financial objectives. To this end, she suggested using a budget as a key tool for controlling expenses and emphasized the role of banks as safe places to store and grow money.

Finally, during the talk, he emphasized that the most valuable aspects of life, such as love and friendship, transcend monetary value, closing with a note about the values that truly matter.

Educational activities during the week

As part of its activities during Economic and Financial Week, El Popular will present the children's book "Saving is Creating," from the "Financial Adventure" educational program, this Tuesday, March 19, during a storytelling session. For younger children, the educational workshop "Saving is Good for Us," in partnership with Fun Science, will also be held that same day.

Throughout the week, Banco Popular will be presenting its film forum series, "The History of Numbers." This series consists of short educational lessons exploring the origins of numbers and mathematics, presented by members of the bank's team. After watching these videos, students will have the opportunity to share and discuss what they have learned.

Meanwhile, in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, on Wednesday, March 20, a conference entitled “Purposeful Finances for Young People” will be held, led by financial coach Teresa Sánchez, at 2:30 pm.
