50 young people will carry out preventive patrol and surveillance work in Ciudad Juan Bosch

SANTO DOMINGO. Fifty students residing in Ciudad Juan Bosch will form the first group of volunteers for the Ciudad Juan Bosch Perimeter Proximity Civil Security Agents Plan, as part of a program coordinated by the Ministries of the Presidency and of the Interior and Police.

This was announced last Monday by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría, who stated that the students who will participate in the surveillance of the surroundings of their residential community will have the protection of an elite team of police and military members.

At the event, the official, who was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Investment Projects of the Ministry of the Presidency and head of Ciudad Juan Bosch, Camel Curi Lora, emphasized the importance of the initiative for the community, highlighting that the residents themselves will work on citizen security in the area, carrying out surveillance, patrols and reporting any abnormalities, hand in hand with a police and military force that will support them.

“You will be able to feel very proud of what you are doing, because you will be contributing to your community, but at the same time you are contributing to your country and you are developing yourselves,” said Santos Echavarría, addressing the young participants in the program.

He believed that the project would change the lives of everyone involved, because it would make them citizens committed to supporting and promoting positive actions and would help them apply the experience gained to being good citizens in all aspects of life.

For her part, the Deputy Minister of Preventive Security in Vulnerable Sectors of the Ministry of the Interior and Police, Mily Pérez, said that the participants will receive training in self-defense, conflict resolution, first aid, human rights and other aspects required by the profile they must demonstrate and that they will be evaluated and monitored by a team of behavioral professionals to ensure that they meet the appropriate attitudes and aptitudes.

“You have to be a body that provides security, both to the residents and to those who have the responsibility of guaranteeing that security here,” Pérez reminded the young people who will work in coordination with the security plan that is applied in Ciudad Juan Bosch.

Meanwhile, Juan Ramón Aquino, from internal security at Ciudad Juan Bosch, said that the new agents will patrol on bicycles and on foot, and that they will be focused on prevention.

He explained that three work shifts have been established, ranging from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and that they will receive all the necessary equipment and training at the Military Training Directorate of the Dominican Republic Army, located at the San Isidro Air Base.

The event was attended by the Vice Ministers of Investment Projects, Camel Curi Lora, and the administrator of Ciudad Juan Bosch, Fradiz Paulino, among other authorities.
