SANTO DOMINGO.–The Malecón Deportivo is projected to be inaugurated during the first quarter of 2026, with a variety of disciplines and attractions for the recreation and well-being of the capital's population.
This Wednesday, June 18, President Luis Abinader and the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, led the start of its construction, with the goal that it will be ready before the start of the Central American Games.
"This project is an area intended for people's recreation, with a space where they can exercise facing the sea," the mayor declared during the project's presentation.
He explained that, even if the space is not used for the games, it can still be enjoyed by athletes and visitors.
Mejía said that this project is part of the Santo Domingo Comprehensive Plan and will have different zones, including a skatepark ., basketball courts, beach volleyball, soccer, children's areas, covered bleachers, bathrooms and spaces for food
In addition, it will have a bio-healthy area facing the sea, commercial areas and viewpoints, as well as the integration of the Monument to the Heroes of May 30.
The project aims to sow a better future for the entire country, the mayor stated, inviting citizens to take care of these spaces and continue enjoying those already in operation, such as the seafront promenade.

Abinader stated that these initiatives not only improve the city, but also raise the happiness indicators of its citizens.
The president stated that the works carried out aim to make the community feel happy with the environment and with its officials.
