These are the activities for the 60th anniversary of CODIA (Part 2)

SANTO DOMINGO.- The CODIA, Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors, will hold a series of protocol events for its 60th anniversary, with the inauguration on January 7th extending until the 15th of the same month, in the year 2023.

In a previous text, we published the schedule of events for earlier dates. On Wednesday the 11th, the activities run from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, beginning at the Cathedral of Santo Domingo with a Thanksgiving Mass; at 11:00 AM, a parade and floral offering will take place in honor of the first surveyor of the Dominican Republic, the father of the nation, Juan Pablo Duarte.

At 1:00 PM, lunch for the former presidents, unveiling of photographs of past presidents, presentation of a plaque to the CODIA member of the year, and a signing of the SPIA-CODIA collaboration agreement.

That day there will be a “Gala Night”, which will take place in the INDOTEL Auditorium in the Colonial City and will begin with the speech of the president of the organization, engineer Cristian Rojas Mora, in addition to the greeting that will be given for the 60 years by the Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Deligne Ascención Burgos.

The agenda continues with a conference on the “New Metro Line Under the Panama Canal,” presented by Panama’s Minister of Public Works, Engineer Rafael Sabonge. It concludes with the presentation of awards to the founders of CODIA and a performance by the Santo Domingo Symphony Orchestra.

On Thursday the 12th, the first event, at 9:00 AM, will be a panel discussion on responsible mining and its contribution to the country's economic development, led by a group of professionals from various fields. At 3:00 PM, the panel will focus on sustainable alternative energy: production, storage, and rational and efficient use, presented by a group of engineers. At 5:00 PM, an afternoon tea will be held in the Spanish courtyard of Codiano.

On Friday the 13th, an international seminar will be held, beginning at 9:00 AM with a discussion on mobility, traffic, and road safety. The seminar will feature a group of guests, headed by Hugo Veras, executive director of INTRANT. In the afternoon, the topic of structural vulnerability and technical solutions will be addressed by engineers from the country, Chile, and Panama.

That same day, a panel discussion on effective stormwater drainage in the face of climate change will be held, featuring good and practical experiences, presented by several engineers from Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala.

Sunday the 15th marks the official close of the week with sporting competitions at the CODIA Club and the Montesino Court, featuring softball, basketball, chess, billiards, and dominoes. The historical mural commemorating the anniversary of the organization will be unveiled, and prizes will be awarded to the winners. At 4:00 PM, there will be dance music to bring the CODIA 60th anniversary celebration to a close.
