The modern infrastructure is being built with an investment exceeding $250 million.
SANTO DOMINGO.-The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, yesterday conducted a supervisory tour of the facilities of the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA), together with the director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo, to verify the progress of the projects executed by Aerodom, as part of the commitments assumed in the concession contract.
During the visit, authorities inspected the affected areas and confirmed the start of construction on a new passenger terminal, representing an investment of over $250 million. This modern infrastructure will be completed by 2028 and will have a capacity for 4 million passengers annually.
“An airport of the future is of vital importance to Dominicans, with vision, sustainability and the firm conviction that infrastructure is key to our development and competitiveness,” said Minister Paliza after concluding the tour.
Similarly, Pichardo highlighted that this project in progress is "a modern, sustainable infrastructure aligned with global standards, marking a milestone in the airport development of the Dominican Republic.".
In addition to the new terminal building, other works were supervised such as the remodeling of the arrivals area, roofs, facades, lighting and air conditioning systems, as well as the expansion of the long-term parking lot, currently in its final phase of construction.
Vinci Airports , for its part, reported that it has completed the construction of a 3,600 m² roof over the north terminal, designed to collect rainwater, as well as a new 1.5 MWP solar plant installed on the roof of the building, with the purpose of optimizing the airport's energy efficiency
With these advances, Las Américas International Airport consolidates its position as the main air gateway to the country, reaffirming its strategic role in international connectivity and national economic development.
Accompanying the tour were Mónica Infante, general director of Aerodom, and Manuel Inoa Liranzo from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, from the airport management.
