The closure will continue until Thursday the 30th of this week

SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced that starting this Monday, January 27, it will proceed with the closure of vehicular traffic on the Juan Pablo Segundo highway bridge (Autovía a Samaná) with the Mella highway.

In an information note, the MOPC highlights that the bridge will be intervened in order to carry out repair work on the expansion joints.

He adds that the closure of the structure will continue until Thursday, January 30, during daylight hours.

The Public Works department apologized to citizens who use that road daily for their commutes, for any inconvenience the measure may cause, but ultimately aims to guarantee greater safety for users, the press release highlights.

This highway was inaugurated on December 12, 2008, during the administration of then-President Leonel Fernández , although its beginnings date back to 1999 with the call for bids, and it was awarded in 2001 during the government of Hipólito Mejía and the administration of Miguel Vargas Maldonado, in the then Secretariat of Public Works and Communications (SEOPC).

The road is mostly South-North oriented, from kilometer 20 of the Las Américas highway, passing East of Monte Plata and West of Bayaguana and Los Haitises, for a total of 106 kilometers.
