The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, highlighted that the construction work on the San Francisco de Macorís bypass is more than 70 percent complete, which will allow for the relief of vehicular traffic in the center of that city.
Ascención traveled to the Northeast to supervise the construction work on the ring roads of San Francisco de Macorís and Nagua, as well as the seafront promenade of the latter city.
After touring part of the road and reviewing its progress, the official stated that it will contribute to easing vehicular traffic, benefiting the entire Northeast region.
“We are here to see the progress of these works and I can assure you that by the end of this year President Luis Abinader will be delivering this important infrastructure project, which connects Antonio Guzmán and Libertad avenues,” he said.
The road borders the south of the municipality and is 9.85 kilometers long, with two lanes 3.50 meters wide and two sidewalks two meters wide.
The SFM ring road will include engineering structures, six bridges, two traffic interchanges, and the installation of geogrids and geocells
The provincial governor, Ana Xiomara Cortés, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work.
Among the benefits that the new road will bring are greater ease for vehicular mobility, reduction of city traffic congestion, fuel savings, and faster transport of agricultural products.
Works of Nagua
Regarding the two projects in Nagua, Ascención said that the work on the boardwalk and the ring road is progressing well, and that vehicular traffic will be opened on this road by next September.
“At the moment, important works are being carried out on the Nagua bypass, both on the bridges and the road itself. This is a project of very special significance for the María Trinidad Sánchez province, specifically to connect the communities of Nagua, Río San Juan and Cabrera, without passing through the center.”.
He also said that the breakwater and other work being done on the seawall, such as the road itself, "will serve as protection for the people of Nagua.".
Also participating in the tour were Roberto Herrera, Vice Minister of Supervision and Inspection of the MOPC, and Rafael Gómez, representative of the contracting firm in charge of the construction of the works.
