In the context of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2024), the Piñero Group officially joined the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism promoted by the UN, which represents a commitment to the development of responsible and sustainable tourism, endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly since 2001.
The signing ceremony took place yesterday, Wednesday, January 24, the opening day of the event, at the Grupo Piñero stand. Isabel Oliver, Senior Officer of UN Tourism, and Isabel Piñero, Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Piñero, signed the document formalizing the Group's commitment to the principles of the code.
Isabel Piñero emphasized that ethics is a fundamental pillar of the business she leads. "That is why Grupo Piñero is extremely proud to be part of this essential framework for responsible and sustainable tourism," she explained.
She added that "adherence to the principles of the Global Code of Ethics represents a firm commitment and a challenge in our continuous improvement to promote tourism that contributes to the development of the communities where we operate, preserving their cultural and natural heritage, and guaranteeing transparency, justice and equity," the executive explained.
Ten principles for an ethical industry
The Global Code of Ethics for Tourism comprises ten principles designed to cover the economic, social, cultural and environmental components of the tourism sector and has as its central objective to help adhering companies maximize their benefits while minimizing any possible negative impact.
Of the ten principles that make up the code, five stand out for their relevance: the second article deals with the promotion of tolerance, equality and human rights, the third encompasses the commitment to safeguarding the environment and natural heritage, the fifth seeks to promote the integration of the population into the economic and social fabric of the destinations, the sixth highlights the importance of ensuring the safety of clients and, the ninth article covers local development, avoiding excessive repatriation of profits and guaranteeing the fundamental rights of workers.
The signing and adherence to this code represents a further step in the sustainability objectives of Grupo Piñero, which, through its Sustainability Division, ensures the incorporation of all the principles of the code in its different lines of business and in all its destinations, placing sustainability as the central axis of the company's strategy, a press release highlights.
