Four cruise ships bring more than 16,000 visitors to the Dominican Republic in a single day

SANTO DOMINGO- The Dominican Republic registered the arrival of 16,287 travelers in a single day, after the entry of four ships to the terminals of Amber Cove and Taíno Bay, in Puerto Plata, and Cabo Rojo, in Pedernales, in a day that demonstrates the dynamism of the cruise industry in the country.

In Puerto Plata, the ships Mardi Gras, Carnival Magic and Resilient Lady coincided, making a stop at the Amber Cove and Taíno Bay terminals.

The Mardi Gras arrived with 5,835 passengers and 1,764 crew members, while the Carnival Magic carried 3,858 passengers and 1,350 crew members. The Resilient Lady, meanwhile, registered 2,513 passengers and 1,182 crew members.

In total, the three ships generated a movement of 12,206 passengers and crew in the ports of Puerto Plata.

Cabo Rojo has over 5,400 passengers and crew

Meanwhile, the Cabo Rojo terminal in Pedernales received the Freedom of the Seas, arriving from Willemstad, Curaçao.

The vessel, which made a stop on Wednesday, September 30, carried 4,081 guests and 1,392 crew members, for a total of 5,473 people on board.

This arrival adds to the process of consolidating Pedernales and the southern region as new points of interest for companies operating in the international cruise market.

The economic impact is estimated at US$1.6 million

Taking as a reference an estimated average consumption of US$100 per visitor, the activity generated by these four vessels could represent an economic movement close to US$1.6 million.

This flow of resources benefits sectors such as commerce, transport, excursions and tourist services, as well as other activities related to visitor services.

Port Authority highlights industry growth

The executive director of the Dominican Port Authority, Alejandro Campos, indicated that the simultaneous operation of vessels in the north and south demonstrates the strengthening of the national port infrastructure.

Campos stated that the country continues to expand its connectivity and port capacity, while maintaining the interest of major international companies dedicated to maritime passenger transport.

He also stated that the activity recorded in Puerto Plata and Pedernales reflects the territorial expansion of cruise activity and the potential of both destinations to continue attracting international vessel calls.
