According to Catrain, Oceanus Investment plans to invest US$2 billion in Bucanyé over a period of 20 years for the construction of 17,000 rooms
SANTO DOMINGO.- Salvador Catrain, legal representative of the company Oceanus Investment, assured that Bucanyé adheres to the environmental and tourism regulations and complies with the uses of its category VI national recreation area, which allows the sustainable development of a project that promotes social and economic benefits and the protection of the environment.
He explained that the company plans to begin construction of the tourism project in Pedernales next November if the administrative deadlines for obtaining the environmental license are met.
He explained that they are waiting for the Ministry of Environment to grant, within a maximum period of 45 days, the terms of reference that will allow them to carry out the environmental impact study of the area in order to subsequently obtain the final environmental license.
According to an interview published by Listín Diario, Catrain stated that the company has complied with all the required requests and that the Pedernales City Council has already granted it the no objection for land use and is only waiting for the request for environmental authorization and minimal impact.
According to Catrain, Oceanus Investment plans to invest US$2 billion in Bucanyé over 20 years to build 17,000 rooms, assuring that the social and economic impact the project will have on Pedernales is one of the factors the company takes most into account
He said that in the first phase, provided the State builds the necessary urban infrastructure, US$35 million would be allocated to a 125-room hotel, creating 500 jobs.
He explained that, in total, Bucanyé will be a job creator. It is estimated that it could provide direct employment to 51,000 people, all of them from the province of Pedernales.
“We will put Pedernales on the world map. We will make the area a national brand,” Catrain emphasized.
Oceanus Investment advisor Francisco Manzano has made it clear that the property titles for plot 40, which have the sovereign guarantee of the State and where Bucanyé will be located, were purchased “in good faith” from their owners and were free of liens or encumbrances.
“Now, in addition, we have a certification from the real estate jurisdiction stating that since 2014 the land has not been in dispute with the State,” Catrain added.

Regarding the concerns of environmental groups, he said that the company understands their concerns and reaffirms its commitment to respecting nature, a commitment that he indicated is included in the project's master plan and that includes monthly environmental compliance reports.
