Transporters cancel fare increase

SANTO DOMINGO.– The fare increase announced by transport operators in response to the rise in toll costs was cancelledafter a meeting between the executive director of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant)Milton Morrison, and Antonio Marte, president of the National Confederation of Transportation Organizations (Conatra)

He also met with Juan Marte, president of the National Confederation of Transport Workers (CNTT); Antonio Brito, vice president of the National Federation of Transport, the New Option (Fenatrano); and Gervacio de la Rosa, president of the Federation of Transport Workers of the Northern Region (Fetranreno).

Morrison agreed with transport leaders to look for ways to prevent users from being affected by this type of increase.

“At Intrant, we have appointed a commission that will conduct a survey on intercity routes that pay short-speed tolls, which will include the review and provision of the Bonogas card to drivers, among other measures,” Morrison stated.

In this first stage, the routes of Boca Chica, La Caleta, Villa Altagracia, San Cristóbal, Haina, Quita Sueño, El 40, among others of short gallop, which travel daily on more than one occasion through the toll booths, will be reviewed.

Antonio Marte, president of Conatra, called on transporters not to implement the increase now and to wait for the results of the consultations being carried out by the Government to find alternatives that benefit everyone.

Marte acknowledged that, to maintain and improve the highways, the Government must invest substantial economic resources that must be generated through toll collection, and that "we need to have roads and highways in excellent condition to transport passengers and the tourists who constantly visit the country."
